Poster from the opening night of the 40 Watt on Clayton Street,
April 3, 1981.
Vanessa autographed this for me.

The Pylon tour poster from the Clayton Street opening night.
pylonattheold40watt_wz87
Michael Lachowski's tremendous interpretation of Pylon at the Watt on Clayton.
He was gracious enough to allow us to present it here. This was my
anniversary present to Jean when she gave me the website.
It presently hangs on our living room wall.
40W Broad poster

The picture that I think captures the essence of the 40 Watt better than any other. This is the famous Washington Post picture of Go Van Go onstage in the summer of '84. If you look closely in the upper right corner you can barely make out a hippie soundman.

One of the more iconic posters I ever saw for a show in
Athens, the inimitable Limbo District video premiere.

The release poster for Matt "Guitar" Murphy's last CD, which was one
of the shows I recorded of his band at the 40 Watt Uptown on Broad
Street in about 1986.

Poster from one of the shows I worked for REM in the early days.

A unique week at the Watt, featuring the only appearance of Tanz Plagen. Their setlist was painted on the area rug the drummer used for his trapset, and after the show Rik Armour used it for his kit until Art in the Dark broke up, at which point it passed to me and I hung it on the wall of the Watt next to my soundbooth. It now resides under my daughter Allison's trapset at her Mom's house.

The setlist from REM's first show in New York in June, 1981.

The lyrics to "Gardening at Night", written in my spiral poetry notebook
by Michael while on the way to New York City in June, 1981.

A personal favorite, the front of my T-shirt from the "I Could Turn You Inside Out" MTV video
shot by Jim Herbert at the Clayton Street Watt (second time around).
My second appearance on MTV (and last I might add).

Another good friend gone to his reward, the cover of the volume of poetry by the inimitable
Deacon Lunchbox, which he gave me on his second appearance at the Watt.

Love Tractor before Andrew joined the band, around the time their MTV video "Around the Bend" was released. The video featured a cameo appearance by a hippie soundman coming out the front door of the Watt with a broom, the way Carol Burnett did when she closed her show.

My second show with REM, at the old B & L (later I & I Club) on Oconee Street. I still remember the soundman for XTC at soundcheck looking at Gary Sharp and saying aloud, "sounds a bit woolly don't you think?" Then Gary looked around at me and said aloud, "I forgot to push the woolly button.." True story.....

The Athens Banner-Herald headline photo from January 7,1982, one that many of us will never forget.
I'm posting this in recognition of seeing my old friend Steve, for the first time in 29 or so years.
Thanks for helping my little girl my friend...

My business cards from when I returned to Georgia from Virginia in 1980
till the end of my career in music, hard to believe there are 13 years represented in them.
And by the way, the first one is the only one that I created and promulgated as my own.
The others were the work of the people I worked with and for. Thanks to my friend,
Romeo Cologne, for the use of his trademark 40W logo!

I'd like to thank my friend Tim Abbott for sharing this with me, it's the poster from the penultimate show I worked for REM in June, 1981. The last show was the following night at Tyrone's. I hadn't seen this poster in thirty years till today.
